April 30, 2009 - With MLB 2K9 waning in terms of quality in recent years, it's a good thing for 2K Sports that The Bigs was received so well when it debuted last season. Well, just as fall is followed by winter, MLB 2K9 is followed by The Bigs. The Bigs 2 comes to us with prettier visuals than its predecessor, new gameplay mechanics, mini-games, and game modes. Think of it as The Bigs on steroids, if you will.

The Bigs is the ying to MLB 2K's yang. For as much as MLB 2K is a simulation of the sport of baseball, The Bigs is an over the top arcade baseball game with massive players, fireball trails spewing off of pitches, and homeruns that break billboards sitting in the outfield. The original Bigs was fun, but lacked the depth in its game modes to stay around for very long. The Rookie Challenge -- as close as the game got to a career mode -- was fun, but got stale after awhile, and with little to back it up players were forced to turn back to the deeper MLB 2K8.

NFLHITMANS perspective after playing the Demo...

The BIGS 2 is what MLB 2K9 could have been. MLB 2K9 and The BIGS 2 are made by the same publisher but the difference is night and day. The BIGS 2 is more arcady than simulation but when it comes to game play & the fun factor than The BIGS 2 is the game you need to have! With its mini games like HR Derby where you aim to take out signs, lights, people & more to earn points the fun never stops! I could not stop playing the demo this weekend and my 2 sons and a cousin were all having fights on who gets to play next LOL. In all honesty I can't believe an arcady type of sports game has caught my interest with pure fun and enjoyment. Is The BIGS 2 over the top? Yes and it was meant to be that way. This game is a more simplistic answer to getting the whole family involved including the children and the wife. The game is easy to understand and anyone can pick up and play with a few tips in under 5 minutes. If you are upset at how 2K made MLB 2K9 than I suggest you give them a second chance with this game and feel what its like to enjoy a video baseball game again!
